1. SMERZ (Oslo, Norway)

Inspired by sleek R&B and atmospheric techno with clever lyrics

The duo are signed to independent label XL Recordings and released their debut EP, Have Fun, in March of this year. The Norwegian duo has that minimal and effortlessly cool vibe going on. Add them to your alt-pop and next big thing playlists. In case you were wondering, Smerz is shorthand for the German phrase for heartbreak. We’ve been hooked since the beginning and are very excited to see what’s next from Smerz.

For fans of Jessy Lanza and genre-bending jams.

2. SIGRID (Alesund, Norway)

Synth-pop from a promising young talent with plenty of attitude

Sigrid began her musical career at the age of 17. She signed with Island Records in 2016 and released the anthemic debut, Don’t Kill My Vibe, in 2017. And in 2018 she won the BBC’s Sound of 2018. Earlier this year she released a 3-track EP, Raw, which included the well-received single “High Five” as she continues to stand out and make waves.

3. ANNA OF THE NORTH (Oslo, Norway)

Soul-baring electro-pop

Anna of the North is Anna Lotterud from Norway and New Zealand-born producer Brady Daniell-Smith. After the internet/hype machine success of a few singles, Anna of the North released their debut album, Lovers. Later that year Anna was featured on Tyler, The Creator’s singles “Boredom” and “911 / Mr. Lonely” off his album Flower Boy alongside Frank Ocean. Anna also performed with Tyler, the Creator and Steve Lacy on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She has also made appearances on tracks with G-Eazy and Rejjie Snow. Anna of the North are definitely ones to keep an eye on.

4. AURORA (Bergen, Norway)

Hotly anticipated dreamy electropop

Last month, Aurora released “Queendom”, the highly anticipated follow-up to her well-received 2016 debut All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend. She charted in the UK with her cover of Oasis’ ‘Half The World Away’ for the John Lewis Christmas advert. Her music also appeared in an episode of ‘Girls’ when she recorded a cover of Bowie’s “Life on Mars”. Aurora will be heading back on a UK/European tour in October and the new album is due soon and we’ll be watching. Very excited for all of this Queendom.

5. SKOTT (Vikarbyn, Sweden)

Ethereal pop vocals with expressive lyrics

The singer-songwriter was raised in a small village that was comprised of mostly folk musicians and she learned to play violin at a young age. She made her music debut at 16 with the beautifully chill “Porcelain“. Later, she would tour with artists like MØ and Phantogram and collaborate with Grey. In January of this year, she released the EP Stay Off My Mind with the title track being the lead single (below).
